5. November 2005 - Award

female/male has won the Deutscher Kurzfilmpreis 2005
(German Short Film Prize 2005) in the category "fiction under
seven minutes". The prize is 30.000 Euros for my next project.

I am completely over the moon and still can't really believe my luck! The
ceremony took place at the HFF "Konrad Wolf" in Potsdam, Germany and the
prize was given to me by the German Minister for Culture and Media
Christina Weiss. Both the actors and the team were there and of course we
partied until late. I really need to cure my hangover...

Thanks again to all the people who helped realize this little film! Daniel

15. August 2005 - News

During the last few months I have been working on two new short films:

The first one is a short experimental documentary entitled Skolopendra.
It was shot in September 2004 in front of the exhibition "Das MoMA
in Berlin" at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, Germany. The film is
concerned with the question why people go to exhibitions.

The second film is a short fiction film. It is a co-production of the
HFF 'Konrad Wolf' and the TV channel Arte. The commissioning editor
is Barbara Häbe. The film is called Dog and was shot in Calcutta, India
in February / March 2005.

The story in short: The filmmaker Daniel Lang comes to India with the
intention to make a film about street children. He does not get very far,
as he is run over by a huge, green lorry. But Daniel does not die!
He is reincarnated as a dog, a street dog to be exact. And as everybody
knows: Daniel hated dogs as a human...

India was a great experience, although working conditions were very difficult.
Without the help of Neel Lahiri, my assistant director / translator / guide,
this film would never have been possible!

Both films are on the verge of being finished - we are working on the sound
design at the moment. I am very happy with both of them. For the first time
I have explored the possibilities of humor (in Dog it is very dark humor!),
and am consequently very excited to find out how a larger audience reacts.
I am of course hoping for a good festival to premiere at. More to come soon...
